Frequently Asked Questions

Aren’t Trust Services only for the very wealthy?

This is a question we frequently hear and the answer is an emphatic no. At First Community Trust we believe we can offer our services to a broad segment of the market and not just to the very wealthy. Let’s look at a few examples.

  • If you have saved for retirement and want to spend more time with your family or traveling we can manage your assets and pay any bills you would like.
  • If you have recently inherited assets from a family member and simply don’t have either the time or expertise to manage your funds we can help.
  • If you are about to receive a distribution from a retirement plan and need investment assistance, we are available.
  • If you have more than $1,000,000.00 in total assets, including your home, insurance policies, retirement plan assets, etc., we can assist you with proper estate planning so you can leave as much as possible to your heirs and/or charities.
  • If other things in your life are more important than worrying about managing your investments, we definitely can help you attain peace of mind.

Aren’t Trust Services expensive?

Many of our competitors would like to have you think that our services are expensive but a closer look reveals that our services are not only affordable but in many cases less than you are paying now. Our investment decisions, management and suppliers work to maximize your total return, minimize your internal expense and perform in accordance to your financial objectives. In exchange for this straightforward pledge, we will charge reasonable fees that are fully disclosed on your statement. Since we compute our fees on the asset size of your account our goal, like yours, is to see the account grow. We would be more than happy to provide a comparison of our fees to what you are currently paying. And, be careful, some providers will hide their fees that can diminish the total return to you.

If I have a trust, don’t I lose control of my account?

You do not have to lose control of your assets when you work with us. In many cases you will be using us to manage your assets during your lifetime, and you can be as involved in the process as you would like. Further, if you do not like the investment returns or the service you receive from us you still have complete control to chose another provider. The only time you lose control is when you would execute an irrevocable trust. And, this would only occur after extensive planning and discussion with your attorney.

Is my account safe with First Community Trust?

First Community Trust is a national association authorized to conduct business by the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), a division of the US Treasury Department. First Community Trust is held to very high fiduciary standards. Your investments are held in your name and are of the highest quality based on the risk you are willing to assume. In addition, you receive periodic statements that will reflect your holdings.

Is there any other way for me to see what is in my account?

Yes. First Community Trust provides Internet access for you to see the holdings in your account at any time. This feature will allow you, and only you, to be able to access your current holding 24 hours a day.

How often will I see my trust administrator?

Personalized service is our number one goal. Your trust administrator will always be available to answer any questions you may have. In addition, at least once a year you will be invited to review your account to make sure the investment strategy that is in place is still appropriate for your situation. From time to time there are changes that may be advisable. Thus, our annual review with you will be extremely beneficial.
